Swoopos

Point of sale system

Swoopos is a point of sale system for independent hospitality and retail businesses: the till on the counter, the payments through it, and the back office where the owner finds out how the week went. We worked across the product as part of the team building it.

The problem

Problem.

Independent operators don't have an IT department. The software has to be obvious enough that a new starter is taking orders inside an hour, and reliable enough that nobody has to think about it during a rush, while still doing the accounting the owner needs at the end of the night.

What we built

Solutions.

Not a feature list, the pieces that had to exist for the product to do what it claims.

01

Order and payment flows

The core counter journey: build an order, take payment, print, move on. The path most used has to be the path with fewest steps.

02

Menu and product management

Items, categories and modifiers maintained in one place and reflected on the terminal.

03

Reporting for the owner

End-of-day and period reporting, so the numbers the operator actually acts on are available without an export and a spreadsheet.

04

Hardware integration

Card terminals, receipt printers and cash drawers: the peripherals that decide whether a POS is usable in a real venue.

They built for the busiest twenty minutes of the day, not the demo. The till stays fast and predictable during a rush, and the reporting we need is there at close without an export. That is the balance independent operators actually need.

Under the hood

The parts that were genuinely hard.

01

Built for the counter, not the demo

Point of sale is judged during the busiest twenty minutes of the day. That pushes every decision toward fewer taps, faster feedback and graceful behaviour when a peripheral or a connection misbehaves, rather than toward feature count.
